Other Side of Material (OSM)
Current CAD systems are simply not designed to create "good" offset surfaces to develop core side part data given the cavity side. Offsetting, extending and re-trimming surfaces can take days or even weeks involving lots of rework. This type of offset work is risky, unpredictable and often unprofitable. Solid modeling promises a solution but rarely delivers as the cavity side is typically difficult if not impossible to knit together as a solid body. You can't afford these types of delays and possibly missed delivery dates. That's where OSM comes in. The OSM feature of ToolDesigner™ was specifically designed to address the problem of developing other side of material from a complex surface model using straight-forward, simple to understand techniques and tools.

Automatic offset surface creation develops and analyzes the offset surfaces. The resulting surfaces are categorized as a result of the process. This identifies well behaved non-interfering surfaces as a result of the process. Questionable or clearly degenerate surfaces are labeled for inspection so you can quickly remove or refine the data set as required.

Solving truly problematic areas such as this is a simple task using the unique blanket surface builder. Simply drag out a box covering the gnarly area and OSM trims out the overlapping and interfering offset surfaces replacing them with a single offset surface that is a perfect offset of the original complex area of the part.

You are in control! The OSM process leaves you in control of the finished offset model. You bring to bear your expertise in making decisions about the final form of the offset surface model.
